Week 9 Story: Vyasa's Sperm Bank

In Hastinapur, the problem of infertility was rife. Kings and queens lived and died one after the other, but as the town lost each ruler, no heirs were born to take their rightful place. In the past, the town had found strange loopholes to continue their royal line. Miraculous births and surprise reunions had kept the kingdom going, but their luck had run out. The townspeople of Hastinapur talked daily about what would happen if they had no king and no queen - a sense of nervousness dominated the area, without any heirs forthcoming. With any problem comes an opportunity, and a wise sage like Vyasa was always going to find that opportunity. Years earlier, Vyasa had started to pay austerities to the god of ice, Himavat, in order to learn how to harness the power of cold. Himavat presented Vyasa with a boon: the first cryogenic chamber, thousands of years before the western world learned of such deep freezing technology.   Himavat is the god of the Himalayas as well. Week 7 Story: Comedy Mahabharata

Comedy Mahabharata: Act 4, Scene 3 The scene opens up on a battlefield. The Battle of Kurukshetra is only growing in intensity. In the midst of the scrum, ARJUNA comes out to the front and begins speaking. ARJUNA: The Kauravas have killed my son! It had to be that Jayadratha. He is evil, and has always had it coming to him. We should have killed him back a few scenes ago, but... JAYADRATHA appears from the melee JAYADRATHA: I didn't do anything! It was Duhshasana! He killed your son with a mace not I! ARJUNA: That is irrelevant! You led six warriors against him and killed him! I'm going to kill you now. JAYADRATHA: Oh no. ARJUNA and JAYADRATHA begin running around in circles but nobody intervenes. DRONA steps forward DRONA: Yes, we know what you are wondering - why are we Kauravas stopping Arjuna from killing Jayadratha? Jayadratha is on our side after all. But Jayadratha is insignificant to our plans, so we don't really care if anything happens... ARJUN...

Week 6 Story: A Royal Family

A Royal Family Five princes and their mother, the queen, were looking for a new palace, and the royal real estate agent had found a great deal for them. The king and other princes had already checked it out for them, and so they went ahead and moved into their new home. It was a lovely palace: it had high ceilings, was open-concept, and had shiplap walls throughout. While hanging out with his friend, one of the princes saw a commercial on television that made him think. The commercial had a fearsome tone, and talked about how you can get mesothelioma from being exposed to asbestos, a common building material in old houses and other structures. After watching this, the prince went to his new home and set about investigating the walls and ceilings of the palace. One of the planks of shiplap was a bit loose, and when he peeked under the crack it left between the exposed wall, he saw a lot of small fibers that looked a lot like the asbestos in the commercial he watched earlier that day...

Week 5 Story: Sita is Over You

Sita is Over You After leaving Ravana's hometown in Sri Lanka, Sita was so glad to see one of her favorite people, Rama. She ran toward him and jumped into him with a flying hug, but to her surprise, Rama did not return her embrace. "Rama, is everything okay?" Sita asked. With a dull look in his eyes, Rama replied "No, you have been sleeping with another man - how dare you! I come in here and put myself out here, but you are not loyal to me. How can I move forward in this relationship??" Sita was taken aback - this is not normally how Rama had responded to pressure situations in the past - and with Ravana in the picture, Sita had thought Rama had been a good sport. But now he had cracked. His confidence was shattered, and now he thought she was sleeping with another man! Even though Sita knew she and Ravana had not slept together, she let Rama go on with his tirade. After he ran out of anger, Sita calmly said "So that's how you really feel? That I hav...

Week 3 Story: The Yes Men of the Ramayana

The Yes Men of the Ramayana Brahma was experimenting with ways to create different worlds, trying to improve off of his first work, when he noticed a rakshasa praying to him on a mountainside, with the traditional dreadlocks of an ascetic. Brahma was pleased by the effort and sacrifice of the demon, and promised to give him a boon. Brahma loved giving gifts to his creation, like a proud father giving gifts to his children. So Brahma made the demon invincible to weapons of men, and thus the demon was able to go ravage an entire city on his own. Brahma did not mind the matter at all, because this rakshasa had shown dedication to him for a while, and he could do nothing to stop the demon from destroying a town - a god never goes back on his word. In the time when the demon was ransacking various cities, there was a prince. This prince was very special, and according to some, the greatest prince of all. One day the prince was exiled because his father's third wife did not like him...

Week 2 Story: The Oppressed

The Oppressed Ten years ago, a dictator rose to power in a small, poverty stricken nation after a long civil war. The nation was torn, shops closed, infrastructure crumbled, and only the wealthy and strong had access to the already small rations of food and water the country could produce. To the citizens, it seemed like the rest of the world had forgotten about them, and low on food, many wondered if they would be able to survive much longer in their current situation. However, the nation was under many sanctions and the dictator did not allow anyone to emigrate - the oligarchs could not live their lavish lifestyle without the working class. It was common in those days to look for a way out - no foreign aid or the alliance of nations seemed to help, and sometimes even scoffed at the plight of the oppressed people in this nation. However, no way was forthcoming until one day in June, during a big drought, a man named Cane drove through the capital city advertising his service to sm...
