I really liked this story because it was a battle that really wasn't a battle. The Kauravas heard Arjuna's oath, but instead of trying to stop him from killing their friend, they simply try to stall Arjuna from killing him for as long as possible. I found it interesting that the Kauravas did not care if Jayadratha got killed, but rather only wanted Arjuna to not achieve heaven. They aren't upset that Jayadratha got killed either, they are just mad their plan was thwarted. Also, people confront Arjuna in his efforts to go after Jayadratha, but he refuses to fight Drona. It is interesting to me that Arjuna can decide who he wants to fight. I think this story shows that value of self-restraint more, but it also shows what happens when you do not follow that value. Looking at Jayadratha, who was supposed to be a slave to the Pandavas after they defeated him, he did not honor his word, and therefore is regarded as evil. Even though the Pandavas probably should have killed him at first chance, they exercised self-control and thus are the protagonists.

In this story, Bhima goes absolutely insane. He kills the guy who dishonored his wife by destroying his chariot, breaking his back, and then cutting his head off. The best part is at the end where Bhima drinks the guy's blood and the Kaurava warriors realize that Bhima is super unhinged. Bhima successfully scares off the people trying to aid Karna too. I really like the picture in the PDE Mahabharata of Bhima drinking blood, because everyone looks like they have the same face and head, and it also is a weird scene to imagine.
