Storybook Plan

Story Sources:
The main source for inspiration for Super Ramayana Bros. will be the Ramayana, specifically the public domain edition, as it has been the edition I have read thus far.

I will also be relying on the Super Mario Bros. Wikipedia entry, which will serve to inspire me to integrate Mario elements into the Ramayana world. The overarching themes of Mario games can be found on this page, as well as common things I can apply to the Ramayana.

For Hanuman, I will be taking a look at the Toad Wikipedia Entry to find useful parallels between the two.

Stories
I am going to be developing the three stories I presented in my most recent story blog post. To summarize:

  • World 1, The Abduction of Sita
This episode will represent the abduction of Sita at the hands of Ravana, and the beginning of Rama and Lakshmana's quest to regain Sita. There will be the introduction of minor monsters (rakshasas), and various magical elements from the Mario world introduced.
  • World 2, Ravana's Fortress
This story will be dedicated to introducing Hanuman and the monkeys and could use the start of the Battle of Lanka as a midpoint fortress for our heros to overcome. Crossing the 100 league sea will be done through a pipe system most likely, but there is a chance I could use those temporary stone things that are present in many Mario games. Throwing in the jumping fish that wants to eat Mario and Luigi would work well here as well.
  • World 3, The Final Castle
The final story in the book will be about how Rama defeats Ravana in the final battle. Since Mario final levels are really hard, you often die when playing it and have to retry. Luckily, we have Hanuman with the mountain so we don't lose our progress and have to start over. The princess will be saved, and we will have 'beaten the game'

Storytelling
I will be using a single continuous story, broken up into episodes to fit the Mario style of worlds and levels. The stories will be told from a third person narrator, similar to how the Ramayana is narrated.

Message/Theme
In general, my goal is for my readers to enjoy the story I am writing. The main topics I am looking at exploring are loyalty and perseverance. I believe that the Ramayana values loyalty to ones friends and family, and working hard to overcome difficulty, and I want to stay true to that message while adapting the story to a modern style that is easy and fun to read.
